Can I format a computer without losing documents, movies, music, pictures...?
Well I know I can.
But the question really is how.

I know I should put all these files in a folder and back up that folder... well the advantage here is I got 2 hard drives that are partitioned.
So I put all the junk in one drive, let's say H.
Then format C: right?

Now C: is where my OS is ... So there's going to be some technicalities to deal with, am I correct?
Thing is I've never formatted a computer before. My old computers grew old too fast to consider upgrading it. I'm not too familiar with the BIOS either- I know lil to very lil.

Besides that, I just need my windows cd, graphics card cds? anythin else? Cuz mebe Ill download em on a disk b4 I format.

Appreciate the help.

try this: clean install windows without data loss

since you have separate drives a partition may not be necessary, but it should give you the idea.

Well,
after serious crying whining and trying,
I finally got thing..omg
well, things are back in the shithole

I got a worm on my computer and its causing havoc. its called wincomm.exe
and it seems to be the only trash in my comp. i tried to get rid of it from regedit, but taht didnt do the trick
and somehow, if wincomm runs too long, its spawns a bagillion popups, while online
while offline, its harmless
things are jus installing itself- like internet optimizer, search bar...

wintasks is one way to get rid of it- costs 55$
anyone have another recommendation on how to get rid of this thorn?
and do you think wincomm is responsible for all this crap or is there somethin else?

Alrite, things seem a whole lot beter now
download AVP Grisoft virus scan
installed xp on my partition drive
installed avp (offline)
scanned the computer and put the trojan virus' in the cirus vault/ deleted
everythings running smooth
no registry errors, but
I didn't update xp to sp1
and sometimes my mozilla browser takes a second click "Go" to goto a website. sometimes it says "address could not be found", but the second works fine.
It works, but why does that happen?

anyways, thanks for the help smile.gif

I would suggest you immediatly update to the lastest service pack and critical updates. Will probably solve most of your problems. Don't you think??

AVG is a great Anti-Virus program. Depending on what version of FireFox you have, it may just be a problem with the browser itself. 1.5.0.X Tends to have a lot of bugs, and I prefer to use the FireFox 2 beta 1 that Mozilla has released. See if using that clears up anything. If not, as Jayman said, update windows to the newest version and see if that helps or not.
