Hello everyone. Well I JUST got into learning Python, I've been reading a book and I feel that I should try to just write a simple, but useful program. Well my question to you is, what should I try to write? Also, it would be very nice if someone that wants to help a newbie out would add me to MSN to talk to. (PM me for my email)

Do you have any technological needs that aren't quite fulfilled the way you'd like them to be?

If I recall correctly, the first Perl script I wrote was for a phone number storage system.

For a beginner that is quite serious about programming, I often believe a simple calculator styled program is the best choice. Obviously you'll have grasped how to add numbers, but perhaps you could write a program to manage your electricity bill or something like that. You type in the figures and get your program to do the work. Quite useful and should hopefully give you the buzz most of us get when we use a program we have created.

phone number storage system is really a good idea to start programming with python.

in this program you can get the chance to use all basic and important topics in python.

handling the files in python is not a big deal..... just try it once.

I have an Idea, but I just have a few questions about it, does anyone want to help a newbie out a little bit?

It is to "generate" a myspace Div Overlay. Here are my questions... ( it's fine to direct me to tutorials)

1. How to make a GUI (good easy tutorial? tkinter?)

2. How to print to a file on your desktop? ( a .txt)

3. How can I make it print VERY long stuff, because it will be printing HTML before and after each of the values, which has a tendancy to be LONGGGGGGG?

Hey, I'd like to write a program using Python as well. I was thinking of something simple such as a calculating program or possibly some sort of phonebook, but I don't want it to run in a prompt window. I want to make it a stand alone or window program or whatever you call it. How would I go about doing that?

I have to agree with what 5ubworld said.

For ANY beginning Perl/Python programmer who's just starting out, coding something small and managable always works. However, many people might not agree with me on this, but I found during my training days that by creating something with not a lot of lines of code, can actually increase your experience levels considerably, as you learn where your mistakes are.
