Is it possible to take a song of any type as input for a program, and then analyze the music in terms of waves and create mathmatical functions based on the waves? this is just an idea ive had, and it might just be strictly theory just wondering if its possible

If you are asking if audio files can be analyzed by frequency, then the answer is yes. You won't have to create the mathematical functions, however...existing functions provide for a wide range of analysis possibilities.

Congratulations, you have re-invented audio compression. smile.gif

Yes it is possible, and yes, it is difficult but very very interesting.
The same aplies to images and even videostreams by the way.
