So I have the interview coming up and I thought I would read over some of the technologies that they will be asking me about. Some things I already know a lot about, but other things spacific to the web-industry I don't actually know much more than theory. When I try to read over the documentation and specifications I run into all kinds of "buzz-words" which don't seem to have a clear meaning to me. I GUESS I will get the jist of it after I see them enough, but I was wondering if there is a place to get some definitions (so I don't guess wrong and look like an idiot on my interview).
Lets start with the word Enterprise - a complicated undertaking, a business organization, an activity directed twards profit.
So an Enterprise Edition of a programing language is one geared towards business organizations undertaking large projects directed towards a profit? Or an edition geared towards multi-tiered web development? Or both?
Enterprise Application - ??? I am just not sure anymore. I think it has to do with internet based applications that connect with a server backend (which may in-turn have to access a database or other data source)... i.e a multi-tiered program.
Enterprise Services - accessing data though the internet?
Enterprse Content - I assume that if I get the others right this one will make sence. I assume that this refers to internet business webpages.
Solution - Call me old fashioned but didn't this mean something that solves 1 or more problems. I guess this now means, "a marketable product that if used right will produce less headaches than the other guys software."
Web Based Solution - a web version of the above?
Content Management - The ablity to store, organize, and extract data in a presentable format?
Content Integration -
Portal - I thought this was a web site which directed you to other places on the web. Search engines, directories, FTP servers even... I guess this now means any program which resembles google i.e. has email and search and groups etc.
