The best one can only be chosen by you. Each has their own purpose & situation. Nasm is the net-wide assembler, so it's syntax will cross differnt Operating Systems. Fasm is an attempt at a multi-OS assembler as well. HLA is a high-level assembler, & uses constructs. Being high-level, HLA works on the same level as C/C++.

Basicly, it depends on your OS, your enviornment, & what syntax you prefer. When you are working at the low level of assembly, it's all fairly similar.

I like FASM a lot I think it's the best one. They have a good forum lots of helpful people and examples. There's even the MenuetOS which was written entirely in FASM. The code is sleek, interface is simple and it gets the job done easily. Go with FASM.

I don't really like the feel of HLA. It feels too much like a high level language that integrates assembly -- well that is basically what it is. So I get confused between HLA syntax and classic assembly syntax. -- Part of the reason I loved learning assembly is that it taught me how the control structures worked.

I'm not saying HLA is bad, because it is not... but is more like a separate language than any other assembler I have ever used.

My advice would be FASM.

i've use masm32 for basically everything i've ever done in assembly, so my opinion is bias, but there it is, lol.
