I am going to redesign a website for a local real estate company, and one of the main parts of their site is an asp based search that interacts with mls.com and realtor.com...

the site was designed for them by a cookie cutter company that specializes in real estate websites, so i am guessing the code for the mls and realtor.com search is pretty standard.

since they produced a product, and supplied it to my new customers, is their code open for my use?

can i piggyback on that asp and use the results from it?

since i can't design it from the ground up ( i know no asp) i'm gonna be up a creek unless i can access what they already got going.

(i believe the site is also hosted with this company, so getting the files may be more work, so all this assumes i can get the files)

If they baught & paid for the code, then I say yes. If they pay a monthly fee & the code is running on the site by the people whom designed it (or if it interfaces with their database) then I would think not.

they do pay a monthly fee, "upkeep" but that could just be termed upkeep because hosting may not make sense to these customers.

so it is hosted there, but it is interfacing with these two other sites open api's i am guessing.

is it the same deal with graphics designed by the company?

oh salami.
