These type of scrolling messages in the status bar, usedto work, they no longer seem to work in IE or mozilla, does anyone know why? or if their is one that does work?

Thanks

Tiffany

This feature has been disabled by default in recent browsers. I know for sure it is in Firefox. You will have to enable it to get it to work.

In firefox...

1. Go to Tools >> Options...
2. Go to the Content tab and hit the button that reads "Advanced..."
3. Click the last checkbox that reads "Change status bar text" and hit ok.

Now you should be able to see status bar text when you hover or run scripts. Keep in mind that this is disabled by default and most of your visitors will not know to enable it, so don't put vital information in the statusbar because they may not be able to read it and hence not know about it.

I am guessing this feature is disabled in IE 7 as well. Perhaps someone can tell you how to enable in IE 7 (I don't currently run it from work since I have to be with IE 6 for development purposes at the moment.)

I hope this answered your question.

Yes the statusbar shows the text in IE 6. The blocking of statusbar text is a relatively new concept. As for blocking it, the only choices you have are to disable javascript in the browser or use that content options feature I talked about to turn off statusbar messages.
