Hi there, im new here,

i was wondering how i might have a 3d image, say a very simple solar system, and get the planets to change position
according to new specifics everytime. My question is what language/programs might i begin with to do this? My question might not be clear; lets say the Planet Uranus is at the top of the screen, i would like to have some sort of script that when the image is opened it gets the coordinates of uranus position on screen from an external file i will have ready...none of the planets or views need to change in real time...does this make sense?

any help might save a soul?

cheers
dre

This forum is for perl and python questions. Neither one of those languages sounds ideal for what you want to do.

Quite the contrary smile.gif

Perl OpenGL (POGL) provides 3D rendering with performance that is comparable to C, and much faster than Python.

POGL is free/opensource - visit the POGL Developer's Site - http://graphcomp.com/opengl

I stand partially corrected:

POGL is an OpenGL Perl module written in C using Perl XS.
In the case of OpenGL, much of the work is actually performed by the GPU, making Perl overhead statistically insignificant.
