Dear Friends,
We are organizing a very nice Computer Graphics event here, in Torino, Italy (yes, the site of the last winter Olympics), with a lot of very cool stuff, including speakers like Ken Perlin and Glenn Entis. Rare case, we want this to be completely open and free, so nothing is charged for anything (also software courses and coffee and cookies are free). Here you find a bit more of information, if you are interested (please do not miss that there is an award too!). More can be found on our website: www.viewconference.it
thank yous o much for allowing this announcement of the forum!
ciao from Italy, Paolo
VIEW Conference is an annual event dedicated to the world of: digital content, computer graphics, 3D animation, visual effects, design and videogames.

The 8th edition of VIEW Conference expects to receive 7000 visitors and will host 60 among conferences, premiers, workshops and presentations freely open to the public. 100 international guests will animate the events including four Oscar Awards and three movie premieres.

Pixar Animation Studios’ Ratatouille will accompany the press conference and will be a movie premiere for Italy. Two other animated film premieres: Khan Kluay, first Thai 3D animated feature film produced by Kantana Animation, and Free Jimmy, surreal 3D animated film produced and ideated by Christopher Nielsen, will fill a special night at the movie theater.

Glenn Entis is the special guest of the conference, being one of the previous collaborator of Steven Spielberg and his DreamWorks, today is an Electronic Arts’ manager where he worked to several videogames, including Medal of Honour. Glenn Entis has been keynote speaker at the latest SIGGRAPH and will lead the talks at VIEW Conference 8 as well as the next IMAGINA and FMX.

Pixar Animation Studios sent four speakers to VIEW: the Director of Photography, Sharon Calahan, key artist in the studio, she gave fundamental contribution to masterpieces of digital animation filmmaking as: A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, Finding Nemo up to the latest Ratatouille; Paul Topolos, digital matte painter for the film “Ratatouille”, Alex Harvill, Technical Director for 2D and 3D visual effects, Jessica McMackin, promising Rendering Technical Director;

The presence of Ken Perlin, Academy Award in 1997, is an exceptional event for VIEW Conference. Prof. Perlin is a pioneer of Computer Graphics research and the algorithm he created became a sort of standard component of all CG software tools: the Perlin Noise.

Christophe Hery, of Industrial Light and Magic, Academy Award and World expert in digital character creation will share with the audience of Torino Incontra Conference Center the making-of “Transformers” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End”.

Academy Award Grant Major, Weta Digital, will talk about the special effects of King Kong and Lord of the Rings’ film trilogy.

Lucia Modesto, Senior Character Technical Director at PDI DreamWorks, is responsible to develop, create and evolve the three Shrek movies’ characters and will tell how she did it.

The impressive list of speakers follows with Tino Schaedler, digital set designer for “Catwoman”, “V for Vendetta” and “Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince” movies; Parag Havaldar, software engineer at Sony Pictures Imageworks will present the latest motion capture techniques utilized in “Beowulf”, Robert Zemekis’s latest feature film; James Clyne, will illustrate the concept design process for “Transformers” movie. Peter Nofz (Sony Pictures Imageworks), will share his experience with a backstage on “Spider-Man 3”; focused on digital visual effects and animation in rendering hyper-real characters.
