if you're trying to get started in programming, pick a language and have a look around the forums, tutorials, and code snippets available here. i'd say that c++ would be the way to go, but since that's my preferred language, i'm probably more than a little biased

. the web is also replete with introductory tutorials for a lot of different languages. when you've settled on a language and played around with it a bit, a quick post to the appropriate forum will get you a bunch of recommendations for further resources.
once you've gotten started, you will soon start having problems, because that's how programming goes - no matter what level. when you hit that stage, try to work through things on your own (a critical programming skill), but don't be afraid to ask for help or advice in one of the forums (another critical skill).
