money is no problem for me if it will help me to pass java certification.
i'm registed for java 1.5 exam.my question is should i buy java how to program for java 1.5 or should i buy a new recent book java 6 mustang.

There are different SCJP exams for Java5 and Java6, I think they are both available (but check it first, as I am not totally sure). So pick the one that has the features you are more comfortable with, and choose the appropiate book.
You could also have a look at the Java specification at Sun's homepage (not the API, but the spec itself), you'll be able to solve each problems if you know everything in it (however it is a very hard read, but not hopeless at all).

Haven't seen a SCJP cert for Java 6 yet. An SCJP prep book (as you've discovered) is not a beginner book. The Deitel "Java How To Program" books are excellent for beginners. I have reviewed the 6th and 7th edition of this book (Java 5 and Java 6 respectively) and I can tell you that there is almost no difference in the core Java technologies from one book to another. In fact, the chapters and code examples are almost identical except for an extra chapter or two near the end of the book. And those chapters are mostly Netbeans tutorials (something you can find for free on the web). Frankly I was disappointed with how little had been added If I were you I'd buy the 6th edition. I have a copy of both and would be willing to part with the 6th edition for a reasonable price, if you want it. Otherwise, check amazon.com.

Yup, there is no SCJP6 right now, just 5 and 1.4. (Strange, I've assumed they make an exam for every release, but looks-like 6 really didn't bring that much new)
