I am trying to make a program that uses the linux kernel, to retrieve the user passwords on the computer. I also want to know
how to make it look nice, so i can also add my logo to it. Its not a real company its just a cool project.
I have tryed many books and ALOT of websites, but none of them seem helpful. I am a complete novice, so a step
by step turorial would be amazingly helpful. I do know basic C++, visual basic, html, and visual studio.
I wanted the program to be similar to
http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/
I found a video of what the program should be similar to:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=OSoR2wbNLVI

Thanks for aaaall the help guys,
Max

NOTE: I DON'T INTEND TO HACK ANYTHING, I JUST THOUGHT IT WOULD BE GOOD TO HAVE IF I FORGOT MY PASS, I ALSO THOUGHT IT WOULD BE FUN, THNX

I am sure you are a good natured person, but we really can't help you develop such a program. A program like that could be used to do a lot of harm in the wrong hands. Plus the programming principles behind something like that is for the more advanced programmers. I am sure you understand. Sorry. sad.gif

I used to be like that when I was 11. Could you beleive it. I had my uber leet hacker phase too, like watching hak.5 and using the Switchblade on any computer I could get my hands onto. It was fun, but I got into some real trouble at school, and someday I just realized it was pointless, and that if I wanted to master something about computers, I'd better start coding. Hence my subscription here.

Well, look around this site and google stuff up, its full of info. Also, if you have questions, and if you show that you have research your stuff correctly, our members would be more than glad to help.

If you were thinking about messing with the kernel, you might want to learn C /C++ and Python, the two big languages used in Linux. Python is nice for starting out, it teachs you the rudiments of OO and it's pretty darn powerful for a scripting language.

I am glad you understand and max302 is right, this forum is chalk full of information that is applied to all sorts of programs. From networking to operating system codes to peer to peer stuff, hashing, encryption, advanced math and all kinds of stuff. Plus we are here to help on some more above ground stuff.

Max302, we all know you are still a rebel without a cause. You be a crazy dude from time to time. wink2.gif

These days "hackers" are more likely to get info via social engineering rather than writing code. Sadly, some sheeple, I mean people, will give away their passwords for anything.
