Hello binary_ninja.... actually I'm one of the MAYA students ,an i'm really happy to know that you are interested in learning such a wonderful program.
in addition to your knowledge there is a modern new version for MAYA program and its the 9 addition version, where your can get a default lighting with different options.....and it's better than 3dmax because if you tried to create some animation, or even designing a character you will find lots of chalanges in fixing some points and vertexes...any how>>>
there is an execellent way to get some small good examplese on scripting by using the help botton in the program itself.hope that its help smile.gif

Autodesk Maya: is that the one used in movie making? esp. in Hollywood movies?

I really want to learn that, but I dont know how much the software cost? and good book for beginner. Many says that it is better than 3Ds Max.

Oh...Personally I can't afford...My company does not buy anything that is not useful in our work. What I have now is, AutoCAD2007, MDT, 3Ds Max and Autodesk Inventor series. These are only we're using...

I have never tried Maya, but I think that 3ds max and Maya are pretty much the same.

Actually they are not the same and lots of differents are there
MAYA is more reliable than 3DMax... u will find many differences there if u tried them... i myself had faced lots of problems in 3DMax and it has been solved in MAYA...but both r to create animation and graphics..
u will find many options in MAYA specially for lighting and creating character..... hope that u got an idea about the differences

Aren't MAYA and 3ds Max owned by one company? Pretty clever Autodesk is...making competition for themselves.
