My hosting provider's proxy is on some kind of phishing black list which causes my blog to get blocked by company IT departments. So I wrote the tech support guys asking what I should do, or ifg they have any advice on how to get my site off the list.

And the response I get?

Thank you.

Well, f*** you very much. All I asked was what I should do to get the proxy off the black lists. This is the typical customer service I get from Daily Razor. So if you are considering a hosting provider do no choose Daily Razor because their Daily Razor customer service sucks. I've written them with (reasonable) requests several times over the past months and almost every time they have been denied. The only time they actually granted my request was when my contract was almost up and I threatened to take my business elsewhere. And all I asked for was to be upgraded to the current limits given to new customers, so I could add my wife's domain to my account. And when I escalated it three levels up and they finally granted my requests, they patted themselves on the back and asked me to give them good reviews at some site that was apparently bashing their customer service. I didn't do it, and Now I'm glad. I'm tired of their crappy customer service and the disdain with which they treat support requests - like they are doing me a favor.

So, I'm looking for a Java hosting providers that, first and foremost, has good customer service. I can look through Java hosting providers on the web all day (and I have before). What I'm looking for is anyone who knows first hand of a great Java hosting provider with good features (ssh access, control panel type interface, customizability) and who welcome support requests.

i use goDaddy.com and used netfirms.com before. netfirms had a limit on dbs if you go with their basic or even mid level plans but i havent used them for a few years maybe they made it better. and had no problems with goDaddy so far + they got a 24/7 live support. you might want to check them out.

What kind of a Java Platform are you looking for? I'm not that familiar with the server side of it. I've installed Tom Cat once, but what else is there?

I've been with MediaTemple for just over a year, I love them. AMAZING 24/7/365 support, they are one of the leading high performance web hosts out there - http://mediatemple.net

Or if you want to use me as a referral - http://www.mediatemple.net/go/order/?refdo...slangenfeld.com

Thanks. I see GoDaddy has "Java" listed, but no details. I doubt they have what I need, but I will at least send them a question.

I'd take any recent (Java EE 5 compliant) container. Packages that include Tomcat are usually a lot less expensive than the alternatives (e.g. WebLogic), so that's what I'll target. Glassfish is another new container that looks promising. A package that includes built-in Spring, Struts, or JSF support would also be awesome. Unfortunately Java hosting is typically a lot more expensive than PHP. But I've gone the PHP route before and, frankly, I'm typically much more productive with Java when building a web app from scratch.

I've been using AtomHost for 3 years, and their tech support team has always been great to me.

Looks like they have Java, although they don't go into specifics - I'd try e-mailing them.

Check out Dream Host. I have been using them as my web hosting provider and they give you tons of space and tons of features. Their tech support is great but the service is a little more expensive then Godaddy. I would check them out and see if they can provide you what you need.

They give you root access, which lets you install the applications you need. You can install Tomcat of glassfish etc. I *think*.

I too have been look for a good J2EE host, and I was thinking of going with www.oxxus.net.

There are two things that worry me a bit:

They are small -- but claim to host 3500+ web sites. This makes me worry about customer service.

They are hosted in a foreign country -- I just don't want to park my site somewhere that may host a illegal or questionable material and get caught up in a other peoples crap.

The second one is probably not the most valid fear. I did look though this list of customers that own up to and they seem ok. All in all, irrational fears aside, it really looks pretty good.
