Hey all,

This is not a question about what book teaches what language best. (A book is only as good as you make it out to be. The knowledge will remain inside for as long as you don't do the effort of reading and studying it.)

So I pose this question as books can't teach you everything at once.

What is your choice of reading material/links to keep up with the software development world and programming in general.

O'Reilly books are pretty good with keeping up with software development. They have tons and tons of references and great pocket references. There isn't just one or two books that help you keep up with today's software development. You must keep reading and reading. I suggest you learn how to solve problems and also learn algorithms. Those are things that usually change and you can apply these ideas to any language.

For good software development reading, I recommend "Code Complete 2nd Ed." by Steve McConnell and "The Pragmatic Programmer: From Journeyman to Master" by Andrew Hunt. These are great books that aren't language specific but enhance your skills as a software developer.

icon_up.gif OffCourse DIC Palace! But DIC palace is more for people who want to learn and receive help for programmng problems (Correct me if I'm wrong). And not everyone has got the opportunity to sit in front of the net 24/7. I'm talking keeping up with the technology in general, what the latest etc. Like a speed freak will make sure he knows whats new and whats hot so that he can tune his car to kinda like go faster you know. . . .

I dunno...I don't follow the field all that closely, but the Industry News page here seems to hit most of the big stuff rolling out. skyhawk is pretty diligent about it. There are usually 3 or 4 announcements posted there daily.

You'd probably have to dig a little deeper if you're looking for stuff on particular languages or technologies, but that's the first place I'd look.
