Hey guys, I'm looking for a book that guides you step by step in the process of programming a game engine via C++. Is there a book like this out there?

There are plenty actually. It depends on what kind of game engine you are looking to do and the languages you know to build it. Below is a link to the chapters bookstore showing you several books on game engine building from 3D to physics engines to AI engines.

Chapters.ca - Search results for Game Engine Developement and Design

Hope these books prove useful to you. Enjoy! smile.gif

How much programming experience do you have? How many games have you made?

A book will help, but a game engine is a very complex thing, and if you want to make one you should already have a lot of experience making games. smile.gif

I agree with Tom. Make sure that you have at least an intermediate level understanding of programming before even an attempt. Expect a couple of failures, but with each you will learn something new and eventually you will have success.

There is a reason why some companies focus purely on developing game engines and selling them for tens of thousands of dollars each. smile.gif
