Does anyone belong to, or know of local computer clubs, groups or organizations in your area?
Are they even worth the effort? I think it is a good networking opportunity, especially for people like me who recently moved to another city and doesn't know many people here.

This can be anything from your basic computer user groups to your local 2600 chapter.

I belong to the local (and regional and national) Linux associations, as well as various open software groups. I also belong to AA, but normally don't go cause I'm too damn drunk.

All Linux users so far.

Actually I have been contemplating stripping my Lappy of XP SP2 and loading Fedora 8 on it.

I don't think I am ready to take the plunge into Slackware just yet.

I'm using gentoo at home. Takes a lot longer to load from scratch I think...but everything compiles from scratch instead of using packages pre-built.

And no to the original question - I know that there are some out there, but I haven't bothered finding out about any of them. It's not really my industry, so the networking thing doesn't really make a difference to me.

Plus, I've lived in this city most of my life, so social networking isn't an issue either - I've got too many friends as it is.

AHHHAHAHAAhHAHA

Cuz we've efficiently completed all of ours, already.

* Windows: "Where do you want to go tomorrow?"
* Linux: "Where do you want to go today?"
* FreeBSD: "Are you guys coming, or what?"

I've attended a 2600 meeting last year here in MN, not very well organized.

Good topic though, I'm going to move this over to DIC local to get a little more attention.

I was chair of the university ACM computer science group last year, so I attend that here, and also am on the mailing-list for the statewide LUG, but its meets are like 200 miles from here, so I don't attend that.

There is supposedly a 2600 meeting group in Columbus, still advertised in the Magazine however I went looking for it one Friday and couldn't locate the group. Not very well advertised either of course.

Id be interested to find some groups around Central Ohio.
