I'm using a RewriteRule so I can make my CGI url's a little more SEO friendly. I'm wondering what the trade off is....Does anyone know anything about how efficient mod_rewrite is? Would using a RewriteRule for each page be a performance concern? I realize that using a RewriteRule is one (potentially unnessisary) additional step, but I'm really curious to know if that RewriteRule would ever cause noticeable performance decrease.

Thanks!
Happy Coding,
Fahlyn

I've never actually had anyone mention that the rewriterule provides any sort of performance hit at all - I would assume that if there is one, it's hardly noticeable.

One thing you might want to make sure about is that when you're writing a RewriteRule, you put the right flags at the end - there's one flag(L, I think) that basically says "stop evaluating rewriterules after this one", which I assume would help performance if you had a large enough list of rewriterules.
