Is there any particular reason you want to learn VB?

Ruby and vb are different. Ruby is a scripting language and an OO language. VB is not but I hear this may have changed with VB.net.

I like many others don't really like VB

You may be better served learning java or C# if your interested in VB.
Otherwise, ruby is a good language to learn.

Ruby is not actually used for web applications but for anything you want.
JRuby for example is Java powered Ruby implementation.
IronRuby is implementation of .NET.

Ruby is a cool language. I would definitely look into it. However I would start off with java or c++, especially if you want to be a computer science major in college because those languages will probably be used.

Ruby is not just for web applications, you can create anything you want. Rails is a web framework created in ruby. Essentially any rails application is a ruby one, just thought I clear that up.

By the way, is there any Ruby support in DW yet? Just curios.
