I have search the internet endlessly and there are mixed feelings about what language is better. I dont care about that what i do care about what programming should I learn that if i want to make a mac program i can or if i want to make a linux program i can or even windows. I know this C and C++ are the best bet. Then if i want to program in Microsoft use C# since it based off C++ but more Proprietary to microsoft in my mind but i can be wrong. What im looking for a kick ass programming language that aint proprietary to one OS. Yeah i have an idea what that mass would tell me I think it would be C/C++ Thanks for your input it greatly needed.

I will tell you what there is a post called Python or Ruby in the Python / Perl forums. I kicked out a few links that contain hundreds of tutorials. There is also a link for a free python e-book or two through the python.org website.

I have been having fun with it, so enjoy.

.
Java is not out of the question but i really dont want to learn it right now since I just finally learned VB .NET and Visual Basic. Since Java is influened by C/C++ then I am better off learning C/C++ then go into Java since But then If i learn C++ i can them impelment what i have learned in C/C++ and apply it to Java. Plus Java lack some features that i may or may not need but hey I dont like to be limited. Even if im a newbie

What features are you looking for?

I own a iphone so I also need to learn a language can be import to a iphone. Actually i know you can use JavaScript which is not like Java. Feb is here im still waiting for SDK for the iphone which will elimnate my search. I have taken a look at some of the apps and they look like either C++ or maybe Java im not sure. But thats another reason if dont need to know Java right now then I can delay it. I understand JavaScript so it wont take long for me to understand Java now C/C++ and Python i dont know nothing Java too.
I talk to my buddy about Java he told me that you are right Java is great but it run slower cause of the JVM. Also he told me to learn some of C before i get into Java since it based off that. But he told me that the features it lack are operator overloading and multiple inheritance plus pointer arithmetic but my buddy told me its better not to have them for some reason. But I dont know much about Java its like me ask you how to set-up my R/C cars for racing if you dont race them on that track. I get paid to do web Development and my R/C habit cost me too much money so i need another hobby during the cold months thats lite on my wallet and programming is it. And i dont know at this time whats worst i have spend more hours up this winter then sleeping or the money i spend every week in the summer fixing my cars. Im not here to put down your idea please dont take it that way. Since most for you have many languages under belt i would like that myself.
