Hi i have absolutely NO knowledge of java at all and this is the only site i trust for coding. anyway

I am not asking you to do it for me as you cant do it on here but do you kno wany tutorials which will let me learn the basics of java.

I am making my forum as we speak

and would like a chat room for my members (none as such atm) i have gone to websites in the past but they have other users from other websites chatting and i want this JUST for my members to discuss.

are there any tutorials you know of what will help me with that?


any help will be much apprieciated.

Well there are many sources you can look at for learning Java basics. The best is the Sun Microsystems site itself. It has several "trails" which can help you learn all the basics of the language. They also provide sample code and explain many things related to the language. You can find it at the link below...

Another place you can look at for more pointed and specific help is the Java tutorials here right on DIC. You can find them using the link below...

But if you are looking for something more concrete and great in the way of books, I recommend learning Java from the Deitel publishing series. It is called "Java How to Program (7th Edition)". It is a nice thick book with tons of examples, Q&A and practice projects. It is a bit pricey but covers tons of stuff from the most basic right to the advanced topics. You can purchase it online at amazon.com or chapters.ca
