Strange post really...

I am currently working with a partner on a customized photo blogging cms for my own use. As I can pretty much only code and my design skills are not up to much I would like some reassurance that the following image made by my friend is not at all nice.

Thanks

To be honest, I think it looks great. I'm not going to critique it on a web template standard, as it really isn't in a template form at the moment (I'd need to see it in action). However, the colors chosen and the contrast between text and background is pretty damn appealing.

The only things I would consider changing is maybe make the Stats box a little wider. Also, maybe make the category subtext a little more clear (that may just be an issue with compression). Otherwise, I'd have to say your friend is onto something.

I absolutely hate the design and I would struggle to continue to work on the site due to poor UI design in the first place, a little childish I know.

On the image you provided us, which part do you feel is poor about it, or rather, what would you change if you were to do it?

I believe it's mainly the colour that I can't get over, however the proposed idea is to have have that sidebar on the right hand side of the screen which I also don't like. Maybe I'll just do a simple plain boring XHTML/CSS design, maybe a little easier.

Thanks

what am i needed for ?

ha,

byw,
i like the color, but everyone has their own tastes.
after looking at it though i think the buttons in the 'off' state just don't show up enough. all my eyes see is the black and white, really have to try and read the other ones. but if they were a darker shade of that same green, i think it would look good.

ultimately though over an entire screen the green may be too much, and since it is you using it, just do something you like....

if you design that css correctly you should be able to change the whole theme in a matter of seconds by throwing in another color variable.

i like this color

ha, I just wanted someone else's opinion on the matter.

Personally, Green works for me, I've always been partial to it. But like Capty said, it's all personal preference. The color is really interchangeable in this design. Also, looking over it again, the "Log out" button doesn't quite jive with the rest of it, I believe. Otherwise I like it.
