Saw it on the register. Too bad they couldn't have been fined something similar in the states.

Saw this on the daily news feed. Microsoft is on a downhill spiral, I don't see them being the leader forever!

It's crazy that a company was fined over a billion dollars, and whats even crazier is that 1.35 billion is pocket change to Microsoft.

yes.... thats why the last quarter was their biggest quarter ever (i think, it was definitely huge, and biggest in a long time) and that the last 6 months to a year have seen a huge pickup.

i actually think that they are improving. they bottomed out a while ago in regards to love by the community, everyone hated them for DRM, not being secure etc.... but they've made inroads with regards in some cases to open access (besides the open office standard issue which is a big hiccup) and even vista is selling decent.

they still have a ton of distance to go to be sexy like an apple but my opinion of them is changing quite a bit.

i am a gates fan, ballmer is a fucking moron. so that part might suck.

Well if they are thriving so well, explain why the French Special Police not only switched to Open Office.org, but announced they will convert entirely to Linux; This is saving them over 10 Million dollars.
Also an educational system in (I believe it was the Phillipines?) installed Linux even when Microsoft offered to License their products and train for pennies on the dollar. They were still rejected!

Many other institutions world wide are looking at Open Source alternatives as a means to cut costs. Even the massive Corporation I work for is looking into cheaper alternatives.

IMHO - this does not help the Corporate Whore's cause.

well how do you explain british government switching to vista over the linux alternative they had custom built for them.

people switch systems all the time.

i'm not saying linux isn't massively growing their base right now, but not everyone has a computer, its not like its a straight trade of... one gained ubuntu user isn't one lost xp user... there is business to be made everywhere, and microsoft is rolling in the dough.

its not all os's either... they have their hands in a bunch of pots...
the xbox is small marbles money wise, but is now profitable and a decent addition to their entertainment division.

... one example.

plus hatred like areas like ie is slowly fading... and ie 8 is both standards compliant and not a piece of shit like 6 o r7

The last thing I want is for the entire world to switch to Linux, & M$ to drop off the face of the Earth.

People should have options. I would really like to see Linux stay as a server / hobiests market & not go mainstream. Otherwise it will all loose it's glow. Kind of like when a band I like goes mainstream. Just something about some High-school numb-nuts talking sh!t & not knowing what they are even talking about.

Speaking of this, I saw some jackass at a coffee shop with Linux on his laptop & all his 733T stickers all over it. Point & clicking his way through trying to get on the wireless, even with the instructions he couldn't do it. It just gets under my skin that any old 'Joe can use an Ubutnu boot disk now, but their laptop would be better suited as a hammer than a functioning computer, cuz they just mash buttons & point & click, point & click, point & click....

& Microsoft is not on any kind of a spiral. Businesses gain & loose. Chalk this one under the debit column. You don't get to run a Monopoly not knowing wtf you're doing lol!

I have to admit, I am a fan of XP. Very easy to troubleshoot for all the idiots that run into problems in the workforce.

I don't see that happening. Great Britain uses the pound, not the Euro. Even though both are higher than the dollar, i think that once we get a president that doesn't piss off the rest of the world, the dollar will rise again, maybe even overtake the Euro.

I suspect that most countries will prefer any of the 3 candidates to Bush. I think Obama has the best chance of winning.

Yes, because all the voters in my demographic (18-25) are idiots. Yes we can what? Look at his record (small as it is) and see where he stands. He's as far left as you get. He preaches bipartianship, but hasn't displayed any in the whole what 3 years he's been a U.S. Senator? Laff..at this point Nader may be a viable alternative in November tongue.gif

The 18-25 demographic constitutes the smallest percentage of voters. The senior citizens constitute the largest.
