Hi guys! Well, after many fruitless hours of searching around the internet, I've yet to find a solution to this little dilemma which won't cost me $80AU to fix.

I'm looking to connect this laptop directly to the PC, to transfer a large amount of erroneous files which are eating up the VERY limited space I have on here.

Unfortunately I run a Belkin router, so networking the two together is rather similar to backyard dentistry. Ergo, I'm looking for a way to directly connect the two. I've been told it's possible via ethernet, but that you run the risk of screwing network settings if you do that.

I've also been told you can do a direct USB connection, but the guys at the computer store said that to do that, it'd cost me $80 to buy what I need.

Which can't be right, can it? Does anyone know a way to do this safely? Even if you have the ethernet solution I'm looking for, as long as you can ensure that nothing will be altered, I'm happy to give it a try!

If you have a spare ethernet cable, & a crimper, you can make it into a cross-over cable.

Set both of the computers to a static IP address, and you're good to go, once you've got that cable. If you have a computer parts store, a crossover cable can usually be had for less than 10 or 15 USD. I wouldn't imagine they're much more expensive in AU.

Wicked. I have them set to static IP already, so that's part 1 solved.
