Best way to upload large files

New D.I.C Head Joined: 11 Jan, 2008 Posts: 26	Hi. I need to upload a file (1.6 GB) to my web server. However, using FTP takes ages... Is there any other way (Faster) to upload this file? Thanks, Frode.

You'd probably be able to do it faster from somewhere with a much higher grade connection to the Internet, like a University. Of course, they may have throttled how much data an individual machine can push, so.....

DIC K-mart Joined: 10 May, 2007 Posts: 3,324	What MorphiusFaydal has said is dead on. When ISPs boast about their speed it's always download speed. On the other hand, I don't see any reason why they would place a limit to the file size. To get it there faster, you could use a compression tool that will split up the file into smaller chunks, like say 6 files rather than 1 large one. That way you could fire some of them off now & some later. Chances are your upload speed is around 512 to 768 kbs, & if you are on cable, you will suffer with the subnet traffic as well.
