I'm a web designer and I'm interested in getting into the programming aspect of Web Development. I've been told by numerous people that PHP is a good language to work with and start with. My only question is, whether or not I need prior programming experience or knowledge to begin PHP. If so, where should I start? Is there a more basic programming language that would give me a foundation or can I just jump into PHP as a beginner in web programming?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jarod

You also need to have a server with PHP installed on it. But that's pretty much standard with Linux hosting.

Also you can practice and create application prototypes using LAMP or WAMP Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP or Windows Apache MySQL PHP. You can do this locally but you have to download and install Apache Server,MySQL and PHP

For windows i recommend WAMP Server, is a switch width PHP5,MySQL5,PHP My Admin, Apache 2 and others..

i use it biggrin.gif

PHP is a very easy language to start, i recommend than you look for logic programming first wink2.gif .

I actually use xampp for my windows partition. Its very nice, I've tried lampp and wampp and on windows I found xampp best suitable for me.

Its not the greatest for production though.
Xampp comes with ftp + mercury mail, perl and a lot of other stuff.

If you're a Windows user you can install IIS and configur it with PHP and MySQL
Here is a tutorial about that
