Im trying to make the selection when hovered over in a dropdown bigger fonts, but I cannot figure out the css I would use for it, I thought it would be input a:hover but that isnt it, what would it be?

Is it inside an input tag? Or something with a class of input? If it's a tag, your syntax is correct. If it's a class, it would be:
CODE
.input a:hover
