Well I finally did it! My CPU Cooler finally arrived from New Egg (this time I used FedEx LOL). I spent some time seeing what this processor will do, and right now I'm running at 3.35 Ghz and have no stability issues, or heating issues. I waited for the cooler to arrive before I attempted any serious overclocking, didn't want to risk damage to my hardware. If you're looking for a relatively inexpensive CPU, get the AMD 64 X2 5000+ and overclock it as I have. Well worth the money!
i've got an old p4 i was planning on selling really cheap. is it easy to overclock one, i assume since its a p4 its gonna burn up pretty quick if i don't throw some more cooling in there
Overclocking isn't hard to do, what is hard is making sure you don't over do it. I wouldn't overclock anything with stock cooling, thats why I waited for my $119 CPU cooler. I normally buy things with the intent of overclocking, and wont buy it if I cant safely overclock it. I could probably take my CPU up to at least 3.75 Ghz but I don't want to risk doing any damage to my hardware. If I was liquid cooled I would think about it.
Next I get to do my wifes computer. I got her an MSI K9N4 SLI Motherboard w/ an AMD 64 X2 6000+ Processor today since her's took a serious shit. I have to wait for the cooler to arrive (I got her the same as I ordered) so I can see what the 6000+ will do.
Off the topic, you ever seen a $2700 video card? Is that sick or what?
Those are pretty good numbers for that chip. I am putting together my second water cooling system next week and hope to get some OC done on my cpu. the Q6600 processor can also be overclocked pretty crazy. Just on its stock cooler it can run from 2.4ghz to 3.2ghz with no problems.
Also the core2's run extremely cool so they are idle for overclocking.
I know someone who got 3.65 Ghz out of this same chip with air cooling, I don't like to take chances that why I spent what I spent for the cooling system. I "played" with it some more last night and have it at 3.45 Ghz right now, and still no stability issues. I had an Intel dual core before this one and it ran so hot, thats why I switched back to AMD
Hmm, sounds nice, I was thinking of getting Watercooling for AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+, so i can overclock it, by the way have has anyone had experience with Thermaltake water cooling systems? I was thinking of over clocking my video card too, but I'd have to get water block for it, and not to mention a huge case.
Ive never used water cooling on a computer. Just the words "water" and "computer" don't go well together in my mind lol, so it scares me to use it. I have a friend (he has since moved away) that was using water cooling, but I don't know what brand he was using. I've never overclocked a video card either, all Ive ever done was my processor and RAM
