my rationalization for putting this topic here: audio and VIDEO...

so I've just completed the Gungrave download. All 26 episodes, and I am unable to play them because they're in .sfv and .mkv format. I was wondering if anyone had a program I could use in order to open these up so that I may actually be able to watch them?

Thanks

sfv is a checksum or file list I believe. The video is in the MKV files, aka Matroska Video IIRC.

1lacca is correct, VLC should play them just fine. If you're using Linux (or have it installed in Windows), mplayer should also play them.

thanks guys. Unfortunately I hadn't gotten the chance to read your posts until after I deleted all 26 episodes from my computer (all in .sfv format) because I got frustrated and couldn't find how to play them, and thus I'm in the process of getting them back. Your help is greatly appreciated. So this VLC Player will play .sfv and .mkv files?

The .SFV file is just a checksum to make sure that the video, which is in the .MKV, is okay. It's not required. It's just provided as a courtesy to you so you know it got downloaded correctly.

And yes, VLC Media Player will properly decode Matroska Video (aka... MKV.)

A while back I kept getting sfv files cropping randomly...which program is likely to have produced them? Are they used for indexing or something?

I get them form winrar but since i see that your a linux user i geuss you can get them from any archiver. I've never seen them in tar ballz though.

as for .mkv's i used media player classic, which you can get inside of the k-lite codec pack. you can get it at filehippo.com or most download sites with aoudio/video software.

Other than that there's VLC, mplayer and many other free players.
