Hey everyone,

I've been looking online for some reviews of 3d graphics programs but haven't found much. I haven't used any 3d graphics programs before (I'm not talking meshes, blender, etc) Ideally I'd like something that works well with Photoshop for abstract images. For example:

(large wallpapers so I posted the link instead)

So any suggestions? thanks in advance smile.gif

I love to program so much that I use POV-RAY .. It's fast, it's open source, and it's programming.
http://www.pov-ray.org
If you don't like to script it out there are programs like AC3D that can take drag and drop wireframes
and pass them to the POV-Ray Engine..

It's tedious.. you will need to learn a new language.. but the results can be awesome.

Good Luck-

Looked at the image, which is nice. but im affraid you might be out of luck. most of them type of images are initially created in some form of 3d program. Im teaching myself 3dsmax at the moment, and the learning curve is steep BUT the satisfaction from creating models is phenominal!

Here's a few you can try (note: not all these are free)

1. Maya
2. 3D Studio max
3. Blender
4. Zbrush

Also, if you wanted to work Directly with 3d, Then you would need Photoshop CS3.

Ive just added an images that i did. they're not great. But is that the kinda thing your after?

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll look into those and let you know.

KG87, why would I need CS3? (I have CS2) New tools? And yeah that's basically what I'm after, what did you use to make those?

CS3 has direct *.obj (3d file handling), So for example textures and materials can be painted directly to the object. along with having standard layers before and after it. I've never really used it, but as i stated before, Im no expert!

If i remember rightly, The first on (2 donuts and a sphere) was made in poser (with bump mapping), and the second "swirl" was moddled and textured in 3dsmax
