I don't know what the hell happened, but i can not get onto my vista account on my computer because i have lost the password. This copy of windows Vista Ultimate did umm *NOT COME WITH A BOOTABLE DISC*(HINT HINT). Well i was just wondering if there is a file that vista references to check the password to the username. The system im on is dual booted with XP, so accessing the partition that vista is on is no problem. For some strange reason I cannot access the search utility on XP as whenever i search something, the window magically freaking closes. Yay for shit software! This is my home computer if you are wondering if im trying to log onto someone elses shit. Also, the hint for the password was the password, so I think that it got changed somehow, but idk how it would have. Before my computer even boots, it requires a password to be entered to start the boot process, so no one has been on it.

This happens a lot in the labs I work at. We use ERD Commander for that. I don't know if there is any freeware alternative that will actually work for vista. I will try to find it for you.
Good luck

ntreset will work and you can find it free on the net
Or boot in safe mode and log in as admin and go change the password or if your comfortable with edititing the registry AFTER YOU BACK IT UP lol, Remove the password from the registry and then go and create a new password the way you normally would. If the password was installed via the BIOS, you can clear the CMOS and restore all the bios settings so you can boot the system without changing anything.
Im not a hacker so if any MOD feels that I have given too much info here, feel free to edit as you see fit for this forum.
Naaa you are cool I was just going to post pretty much the same thing. If people are expecting a windows product to be secure they are the same people that put their money under a rock in the garden
I'm sorry to say, my computer doesnt have an admin account on it, as the SAM file was curropted. I just reinstalled Vista and that worked for me. None of the accounts would work, no matter what with the SAM file I had
