Question regarding storing ip addresses.

at the moment, are their any legal constraints to logging an ip address to a database whenever someone makes an entry into a database you own?

I sure hope not as I store the IP address for every e-commerce transaction for work.

To the best of my knowledge there isnt any legal recourse for doing this, it is common practice, and the majority of sites do it nowadays

was pretty sure this was the case (read about some debate in Practical Web Design) and wanted to make absolute sure since I was planning on doing it with my websites.

An ip address is public information, as well as it is a lease from the ISP. So it truly isn't yours.
