I've been googling for quiet some time and found no solutions. Here's my predicament. I use ubuntu and I would like to have one server (with a big hard drive) and then across the house have various thin clients (and no hard drives) with which to log into the server. In my searches, I've found distros that support this that you have to pay for, but I would think there must be a solution. Can anyone help me?

There was an ISP a few years back that distributed exactly what you are looking for. They were Pentium 2 machines & they had a 4mb flash drive that was used to boot from. Chances are you could use a live distro to build something similar, or just use small 10 gb hard drives & for swap space. On your server run an Network File System & you can even push updates to the machines. How many units are you talking about?

2 or 3 clients. Yesterday, I came across this: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ThinClientHowto
I will keep you updated when I try using this tutorial. It looks promising. No clue how I missed it before.
