COM / Serial port debug

i want to play around with writing to the serial port but i dont really have an easy way to see if it is working so does anyone know of a way i can debug / grab every thing that is getting sent to the serial port in xp?

well after searching google more i think i found what i need at

with the quick test i did it looks good but if you have any other software / ideas let me know

To get access to the hardware in Windows, one must usually go through HAL with a device driver.

However, from the command prompt I believe you can output simply COM1
I have my doubts that you'll be able to capture any data in thought.

With Windows, you don't get direct low-level access to hardware. You have to conference in HAL 1st.

Portmon from the company formerly known as Sysinternals is a useful tool for this purpose.
