I have a laptop that worked fine and now IE cannot display the webpage. This laptop have VISTA on it. When I try to diagnose the connection problem I get "Cannot communicate with primary DNS server" it also says network diagnostics pinged the remote host but did not receive a response. I have looked through the help sections but can't seen to find the problem listed. Does anyone have any ideas for me. Thanks

Thanks for the response but I had already tried that and it didn't work. After I entered the link I didn't get the same screen where I had the option to turn off the TCP setting. Any other ideas. I can see other computers on the network but can't access the internet. Thanks for the help.

Are you getting an ip address from the router?
From the command line can the command nslookup resolve domain names to ip addresses?

When was the last time that you power cycled the router?

Can you connect to the web if you connect to the router with an ethernet cable?

If your using any router software or wireless connection software then you might want to check and make sure that any windows connection software is disabled. Linksys is great for this, if your using the easy link advisor to manage connections and sharing etc. and the windows connection software is running then many times after you reboot, you will lose your connection. I had to install and disable one of the ethernet connections via device manager and this solved the problem. You can use only 1 or the other if you want to avoid confusing the system. Many times upon restart the system will try to connect thru the enabled connector that is not the connector that you are using. Also if you uninstall 1 of them, you'll get an error so you need to install all of them and then disable the one(s) that your not using.

or

restart the system a few times until it connects.

If you have a static ip with one computer it can cause an ip address conflict which will prohibit internet access. Have it allocate dynamically or do what previous posters mentioned.

I am connecting via a cable not wireless. This laptop connected fine and one of my coworkers took it home and tried to install a wireless card and when she brought it back it would not and still will not connect to the internet. I can see other computers on the network but it will not connect to the internet via Internet Explorer. Thanks

Did you change anything or did it just start working? Seems kinda odd if it just started to work. You advised that your friend installed a wireless network card and it still did not work. Maybe it was conflicts between your internal wireless card and the external on installed by your friend. Either way it great that you got it to work.
