I've been around long enough to know that anything is possible with computers, just takes a certain mindset and determination to bring it into existence. The question I have, is it feasible, and legal, to write program that would give real time tracking of where an ip address is coming from?

Can you recommend any resources for this topic? Also, if it's not legal, could you help provide some of the basic principles behind it rather than give resources/code?

Just a curiosity I've been having.

There are several services out there that will provide pretty accurate Geo IP information.

You can check out http://www.ip2location.com

And google "ip location" and get a few other good companies.

They use a variety of information from ISP records, to shopping records, to online surveys, etc.
