With the summer coming around, I've thought about setting up some kind of monitoring for my machines, since they're running SMP Folding at Home all the time, I wouldn't want them to bust because of the heat.

I know that Nessus is available for the kind of stuff, but I'm looking for some other alternative, I've had loads of problems installing and running Nessus.

Linux preferably, but Windows is cool too.

Not sure it's snmp or even what you want, but I use Munin here at DIC.

I've used Nagios. It has a quite steep learning curve, but it's community is (was?) very good. It had plug-ins to deal with SNMP as well, if I remember well.

I meant Zenoss not Nessus lol.

I've looked at both Nagios and Munin, and sadly I don't think that any of them fits my needs. Nagios looks complicated... and I haven't seen temp monitoring anywhere, and Munin doesn't do SNMP from what I read, it's just for single machines. If all fails I'l just end up using Munin on every machine I need to monitor and makes them all send the results to the webserver by SMB network share.

I'm giving another shot at Zenoss... I'll try and get through the thousands of dependencies.

Thanks anyways!
