Anyone familiar with using wireline or wireless phone for 2 factor authentication for landline network attached applications such as terminal services?

My Contributions

I wish I could help, the only one I know of is over at https://www.myopenid.com/ they offer CallVerifID with there OpenID service.

On reviewing CalVerifID from My OpenID I see that they use Phone Factor. Could be a good place to start

There is actually a terminal services - specific utility for phonefactor that makes setup really easy, at www.phonefactor.com/terminalservices. Took us about a half hour. Downloaded it to the terminal server, selected phone numbers for users, home in time for dinner!

There is also one for Outlook Web Access 2-Factor Authentication, at www.PhoneFactor.com/solutions/corporate-email.

Big idea is that (for services such as PhoneFactor) the phone serves as the 2-nd factor Authentication. When remote app--such as MS OWA calls the server (after user enters username and password), server tells solution to place an outbound call to user. User responds to call by pressing "#."

Surprising about our setup is that the users are on our side. I'm used to convincing customers that this is really a good idea for us all despite the inconvenience of 2-factor Authentication. They actually have been pretty supportive, because they recognize that incremental inconvenience is so limited and incremental security benefit is so significant.
