Just taking a break from coding video games to get a new topic going smile.gif

Final Fantasy 7 was largely responsible for RPGs becoming so popular in the west, but was it the (at the time) next gen graphics and the launch of the playstation which helped this along.

Some people claim that Squaresoft had made there masterpiece with Final Fantasy 6, and that FF7 while also a triumph was largely inferior to its predecessor, Final fantasy 6 had threading storylines, an awesome battle system and an epic storyline. FF7 had a slightly simplified battle system where every member of your party could use any magic and ability which took away any party choices that werent purely for aesthetic value.

FF7 did introduce the best villain in videogame history in the guise of Sephiroth (Sephiroth over Kefka anyday smile.gif )

anyone got opinions

I haven't played FF6, so I can't comment.

Also; wrong forum. This should be in "Games", not "Games Programming" smile.gif

Meh I always liked FF7 better. Maybe I was too young to really enjoy FF6 when I first played it. I don't know.

do we have that forum here? biggrin.gif

but I really enjoyed FF7 more than FF6. the storyline's is much, much more deeper and much more interesting than its predecessors and also its successors. of course, its success also owes a bit to the launch playstation, but I think that the storyline is what makes it successful at that time. and it also shows how important enjoyable and interesting a game's storyline can affect a game's success. smile.gif

FF8 was awesome as well, as i can see you agree but wasnt a patch on 6 or 7.

Nope... didn't need magic. I barely used it throughout the entire game.
But, I did train to about level 30 before going to Dollet for the very first time tongue.gif

Physical attacks and Renzokuken FTW!

I think FF7 is the golden age of final fantasy. The best FF there is.

agreed icon_up.gif

but yeah. the system battle in FF8 is a bit retarded for me. I would prefer direct attack and Renzokuken.
