I don't really know what fibonacci is, though I have seen that it has been coded here in several languages.

Do you ever use it in the real world of programming?

Some things are worth learning even if you never really use it because they teach you concepts. Is fibonacci one of those, or should I just not bother with learning it?

I've never found a need for it, but it's interesting. They showed it in the movie Pi, but I don't know how accurate that use of it was.

It's series of numbers that can easily be described in computer code. For this reason, you see a lot of examples of it. It's probably the most popular to reach for when giving a recursion example.

However, the series is interesting in it's own right, if you're a mathematician( or artist, or biologist). The series describes the "Golden Ratio", which has a number of application, including the spacing of flower petals and Renaissance art.

Curiously, I did apply it once. I was in a Sybase class and their logo at the time was the "Golden Spiral", that is described by the number series. So I made one with the QuickBasic that was on the terminal I was using.

It is actually used to do predictions on graphs when trading foreign currencies, tho I fail to grasp the way it works.

Thanks for the answers.
There is so much to learn, and I want to concentrate first on the most important things to know in order to get a programming job and actually be able to do a good job.
