Hi,
since one year I am not able to connect to the internet through Ethernet on my notebook, but as I have a wireless router and PCI Wireless card for the notebook, I always have postponed this problem. In fact, I am talking about physical impossibility to detect input ethernet cable, there is no action as a result. When I type ipconfig /all, the card is in the list of the network devices, but it has status "Media disconnected". I do not think that the card has stopped working as I disabled it from Device manager, restarted the OC and Windows said that there is a new hardware "Ethernet card...". I cannot figure out the reason of doing so, with the cable I am trying with, I can connect on my desktop pc, I also tried another two cables, the result was the same, and the desktop computer is able to use all these three cables, so I consluse that they are okay. I am interested if there is something I forgive or just a small thing, which I skip?

Thanks in advance.

Could be a driver issue or it could be that the NIC itself is broken. The next step is to borrow a PCMCIA Ethernet card and plug it in and see what happens. Borrow one you know works.

Check the bios on the laptop, & make sure that the device isn't turned off.

If that's ok, boot up into Windows, open the network devices in the control panel, right click the local ethernet, & make sure that the port isn't disabled.

Definitely sounds like a driver issue. Uninstall your old driver and reinstall the latest driver. If you are having trouble finding it, try this site. http://driverguide.com/

definitly it is a driver issue. it appears that it is working, but it will not work.
either you roll back the driver of the ethernet device, or uninstall the old driver and install it again.

but try first to roll back

Your problem could also lie in the most probable. Check your ethernet cable. There are known for going bad as they are continually being bent or twisted.

Also, check the type of ethernet cable that you are using.

If it is router to computer then it really doesn't matter, but if it is computer to computer then a cross over ethernet cable should be used as some computers do not auto negotiate a connection.
