encrypted email with Verisign digitalid - pull attachments with PHP, How to pull attachments off an encrypted email server-side..

I am new to encryption and especially so with regard to emails. Our emails received from a data providing service are encrypted using a Versign digitalid. I would like to automate the pulling of an attachment from those emails but can't seem to figure out how to handle the decryption part. Any tips?

btw: The Verisign digitalid setup documentation, demonstrating IE5 and Netscape solutions, is desktop-app only and reveals its age and has proved to be as useful a resource....
