Hey!

I am very very very interested in beginning to learn PHP. I would love to begin coding the basics for a long-term assignment of creating a browser based game.

I am not asking for you guys to write me a code or anything, lol, I want to do it myself, but I would love if someone could point me in the right direction as to where to begin learning PHP.

I see all of these tutorials on how to do certain things on here, but what I don't see is a guide for a total beginner... Like where to start/what to do first.. if there is any download-able software involved, ect ect.

If anyone could help me out.. that would be awesome.

php has one of the best online resources.

http://php.net/

i'm sure its in a couple locations but go to documentation > view online > english and the getting started stuff should start you off right.

bring problems here.

Exactly. This is how I started out. For the life of me, I can't remember why I got into PHP. I think I was just adjusting to the times. At any rate, even to this day I still check php.net 1st, for any syntax, how-to, or functionality questions. 95% of the time I find what I am looking for.

Ok, at the php site:
http://www.php.net/manual/en/tutorial.php
under what do i need,

it says locate a pre-configured package for your operating system, which automatically installs all of these with just a few mouse clicks.

Would this be ok, or is it outdated/sucks lol??::

You could use Easy Web Sever. I've never used it myself. I use XAMPP and Uniform Server which are both really useful and include a lot of tools. The bonus that they work on a USB drive is amazing.

Uniform Server
XAMPP

Also PHP.NET is really helpful and w3schools is helpful also. biggrin.gif

WAMP Server is a really good little localhost server as well. You can switch between PHP and Apache version extremely quickly, and offers easy access to your PHP environment variables and extensions.

Yes, if your not too technical, go for Xamp sets you up ready.

W3

And yes PHP website is good but give w3 schools a go smile.gif

Also go for a book, much easier to learn from than a screen.
