Hey guys, i am trying to see if the data from list A exist in List B. the problem is, VLOOKUP matches exact what it is asked for. it is not numerical data, its text.

list A has like Microsoft, Logitech, Apple

while list B has Microsoft Business, logitech, INC, Apple computers

i dont know how to match them partially.

this is what i have:
CODE

=INDEX('list b'!A:A,MATCH(A5,'list b'!A:A,1))

i found other very complicated ones, but i was unsuccessful at debugging:

CODE
=INDEX(Sheet2!$B$1:$B$10, MIN(IF(ISNUMBER(MATCH("*"&Sheet2!$A$1:$A$10&"*",A1,0)), ROW(Sheet2!$A$1:$A$10))))

please help me! if i am in the wrong place, please redirect me smile.gif

Well I would say you could look at RegEx matching.

Excel also has an operator called "LIKE" that is regex-like which you may want to look into.
