does anyone know if it's possible to prevent .aspx pages from automatically putting <span disabled = "disabled"> </span> tags around checkboxes in gridview?

I am trying to validate my pages using the W3C validation tool, but this comes up as an error.

if its not possible to prevent these <span> tags from being used, is there any alternative to a checkbox?

Thanks

I haven't tried it myself but can't you manually remove it from the HTML? Delete the <span> elements.
Might work.
