What would you guys say are the best Ruby and Ruby on Rails books? I'm a total beginner, I've barely even touched the Ruby language before, and I've barely even done any programming at all.

Thanks,

I would recommend you:

- For Ruby : the Pickaxe book and Ruby Way.

- For Rails : the Rails Way and Agile Web Development with Rails.

The "Beginning . . ." series from Apress is great for pretty much any language you're trying to pick up.

If you get through these 2 books you'll be well on your way to ruby mastery!

Learn To Program by Chris Pine is one of the best beginning Ruby books I have ever read, and it's freely available online! It teaches basic programming concepts using Ruby. There are even Japanese, Russian, French, Danish and Brazilian Portuguese translations available.
