Can't see network printer

D.I.C Lover Joined: 19 Sep, 2008 Posts: 1,238 Thanked: 145 times My Contributions	I was trying to add a printer to a Vista laptop. Other boxes can see it on the network. From the laptop, its IP address can be pinged and a drive is mapped to that IP address but no printer appears to be visible in Explorer and cannot be found in the add printer wizard. What could be the reason?

Gabe's Nemesis Joined: 17 Mar, 2008 Posts: 1,255 Thanked: 4 times Dream Kudos: 50 My Contributions	mmm, sometimes on my windoze machines I have a problem with the workgroups not being the same, but that was generally with older versions in windows. Is the printer visible on other vista machines, there may be a box somewhere that requires ticking that says something like "allow file and printer sharing" which will generally enable the capabilities for that general area and may be of use?

If the printer has an ip address (of it's own) then you'll need to change the port in the printer driver to reflect the tcp/ip settings of the printer.
