Just found out CS4 is out now. Has anyone tried it? Just wondering how different it is to CS3, and if it's worth downloading buying.

Looking at screenshots, it doesn't look too different. I'm guessing it won't be a major change, since I've even used older versions and there's not too big a change.

I've read that CS4 is a bit faster, but that change alone isn't worth the time downloading money.

Discuss?

Video link to CS4 feature over view.. about an hour and a half long..

http://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/203/872027

I'm not sure about getting CS4.. I'm pretty lazy in the respect that I will let a few versions flow by before I upgrade... Then again the latest photoshop is not a deal breaker for life... just for my side hobby of drawing..

This post is full of ramblings. Oh well.

Thanks for the link. smile.gif

I might download buy it, just to try it out. I'm getting into graphics a lot more lately, and the company that I've got my second interview with tomorrow... oh shit that makes me nervous again now.

Anyway, they do web design and stuff, so it's best to get into it a bit more.

If I do get it, I'll let you know about the changes. smile.gif

It was put out in 18 months, a pretty crazy turnaround. So far feature reviews I have seen say changes are minimal.

There are nice things, and its a definite upgrade if your still using CS 2, but if you have CS 3, your probably fine w/o it.

(sorry above was just about photoshop)

as far as the rest of the suite goes, my roommate has it and is enjoying it, but he was on cs 2 everything so I couldn't tell you.

I'm gonna wait till 5 (or whatever they will call it) .

I've started downloading saving up for CS4 now.

It's going to take forever to download save up for, so I might just end up leaving it.

0.1kb/s to download 8.19 gig. No chance. I'll stick with CS3 for now. smile.gif

I have got the full Adobe CS4 Master Collection.. an I love it smile.gif
it's not a very huge difrence but... in Ps one big difrence is the way you can handle with 3D images... for example you can take any brush and just start to brush your 3D modell and so on.. in Dw one big update is that you can "try" your website "live" inside Dw, like testing al buttons and menues and so on, actually realy handy...

Yes! I am working on the CS4 Master Collection... and I have to say that I am liking the workspace options. I feel pretty comfortable working on designs, wireframes, html, etc... for projects, and the thing I run into a lot is having multiple files open and switching back and forth with copying and pasting, dragging and dropping, and opening and closing.. etc. CS4 seems to really put a focus on the organization of workspaces (multiple artboards in Illustrator, tabbed file organization in photoshop, relative files in dream weaver and vertical split screen in dreamweaver with live preview, etc) and that is a great time saver... and if you make money by the hour... then that means a pay increase!!! So, I would say it is worth it if that is what you're looking for.

The only thing I hear that is the real downfall is that since the guy from HP has entered the game with Adobe... color matching for printing in Photoshop has been a real problem and that a lot of designers that work with print photos and other related print work are going back to CS2... but I hear that 4 has improved in that area... I will find out soon I guess.

Anyway, I that is my view on the matter so far.

CS4 wants 1 GB of RAM, and I didn't remark big differences between CS3 and CS4...I just can't understand why this new suite from Adobe wants high "hardware resources"...

honestly, the amount of performance difference with large amounts of ram and a photoshop / similar software is amazing.

i was sitting on my 1.5 gb of ram on xp and was not real happy with photoshops performance under high-strain stress (magazine / print design)

now using 5, full resolution design isn't an issue on the fly. its much better

1 seems like a base level for me, they're just encouraging a better experience.

I'm not sure if I'll be downloading buying it, but I do know that if I do, a large portion of doing so will be to play with the bone tool in Flash. Seriously, that looks tight.

I will be getting it eventually, the biggest issue is college starting next year, and the cost... so it may take a while... I would love to get the newer version, at this point I am stuck with CS2, which is okay, but Illustrator and PS annoy me with the child windows (which InDesign took care of and allows you to dock with the main window, CS3 seems to have fixed a lot of the problem (from what I have seen at least) so, with any luck CS4 has solved it totally).

As for Flash, well I want to start making use of AS 3.0 and more importantly Air (which I could do in HTML, CSS, and JS, but it seems like it would be easier to just do it in Flash).

The RAM requirements being raised is very annoying. My laptop only allows for 2 GB (max) of RAM, and I am not sure about my PC... I need to update that too...

I would say that you should get it.

I just upgraded from Photoshop 7 and Macromedia branded apps (Like DW 8 etc.) to the CS3 Master Collection earlier this year.

I'll be on CS3 for a while, I wouldn't consider myself enough of a power user where a couple features and upgrades would be worth the trouble.

I used Photoshop back during version 7. I liked it, then I switched to GIMP. But, if I were using Photoshop still, I'd use a version that does everything I need and is still cheap smile.gif.

In related news, my school recently bought CS4 (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, ?Soundbooth?, Fireworks[lol]). I rather wish they didn't waste their money, but oh well smile.gif.
