No, you cannot hide an IP address, but you can confuse the end point.

For a proxy, the proxy address looks like the end of the conversation. NATing does this as well. If you share an internet connection, using a gateway router, you're already using this.

Your modem has an address that it shows to the internet. On the other side is you and maybe a few others. You're address is probably something like 192.168.1.x or 192.168.0.x. Your gateway, on your side, will usually end in a .1. In a sense, under this configuration, your IP Address is hidden. But anyone holding a conversation knows the modem IP. And, later, more specifically, that device's MAC.

Anything you could do beyond basic proxying to "hide" your IP is questionably legal. So, I'm afraid the explanation ends here. wink2.gif

Thank you for the reply. I mostly need to know how to do this to prevent users from gaining access to my ipaddress

Users of what? If you're just a machine on a network, don't attach to a network. If you must attach, firewall yourself.

Though anyone on your subnet can still find you, even in you don't answer directly. Normally, no one else will see your address, unless you talk to them. Anyone doing traffic monitoring will see your packets go by.

If you talk to someone, they have either your IP address or the address of some device you're using as a proxy.
