Simple (?) question:
I'm making a website with VisualWebDeveloper and VB.NET 3.5 2008 and SQL server Express 2008.

What would be the bare minimum to run this with 20 concurrent users of the web site, pertainig to operating systems?

Lets say I bought a "WINDOWS SVR 2008 ENG 5 USER", would this limit the number of users to five? The "five" in this license is about the number of users logged in to the win server, not the web server or is it the web server too?

Could I use somthing else than Windows? Please note that I developed the site in VWD and VB.NET.

A little later....
Do you think this could be something to use? Any experiences?

Regards
/Jens

An alternativ to MS would perhaps be opensuse. They support the development of Mono so perhaps you could use this instead?
I haven't tried it myself since my servers are running Freebsd, but I'm thinking about giving opensuse a try since I'll start studying .NET at uni this spring.

No, the "5 user" means you can have it installed concurrently 5 times on different computers.

If you're going to be running a database, you may want to just stick to Windows Server 2008 Standard.

As to hosting it on Linux or *BSD - It's possible. Mono support .NET 2.0 now, and as long as you didn't use anything from .NET 3.0 or later, you can set up Apache to support hosting of ASP pages. If you're using Microsoft SQL Server, you'll either need to set that up on a different machine, or use a differ SQL server. The biggest SQL providers in free software land are MySQL and PostgreSQL. Both have .NET binding available... You just have to search for them.
